Inner Vision consists of a white resin mask made from a cast of my own face. With its white coloring and Asian features, the mask captures the identity that I feel as an Asian adopted by parents of European descent.
Behind the mask sits a small speaker, from which my voice whispers passages from my personal journals. The journal entries describe my inner experiences but are not chronological, creating an elusive personal narrative that touches on themes of love, loss, childhood, trauma and healing, dreams, memories and nature. A monitor, visible through the mask’s eyeholes, shows videos of gelatin brains and anatomical hearts, allowing viewers to peer inside and see the internal organs that retain the memories and emotions I recount.
